Kundapur’s Kalikamba Temple burgled

Kundapur: A theft took place at Kalikamba Temple in Katkere on February 5, Wednesday  night wherein the thieves decamped with gold worth Rs 11.26 lac.

The thieves broke into the temple from the window at the rear of  the temple. They then opened the vault with a gas cutter and robbed all the gold.

The complainant Karunakar Shetty in his statement to the police said that the thieves stole 50 sovereigns of gold worth Rs 11.26 lac.But, according to the locals and the temple committee, as the vault was  inaugurated   just a few days back, several devotees had offered gold on the occasion. They claim that at least 110 sovereigns worth Rs 30 lac were stolen.

The incident came to light in the morning when a temple priest came to perform puja. He informed the temple committee members and also the Kundapur police.

A case has been registered in Kundapur police station. The Kundapur police along with a canine squad from Udupi are investigating the case
