Mangalore:Several kids were initiated into the world of letters and learning on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashami at Sri Mangaladevi Temple in Mangalore on October 14, Monday.
The ritual known as Aksharaabhyasa or Vidyarambha is a practice in the Hindu community wherein the child is made to write for the first time.
As part of the ritual, children are made to write alphabets in rice while the letter ‘Om’ in Sanskrit is written on the tongues with a gold ring. There is a belief that children who are initiated into learning on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashami would do well in education and progress in life.
