Kasargod : Normal life has been affected in Kasargod due to a hartal as per the call given by the LDF opposing the Centre’s decision to implement the Kasturirangan Report aimed at protecting the Western Ghats. Though a few areas of Kasargod have been exempted from the hartal, only a few private buses and vehicles are seen on the road.
People travelling on the Kasargod-Mangalore and the Kasargod-Kanhangad route were greatly affected due to the absence of KSRTC buses. The LDF has exempted the area on the north of the Chandragiri bridge in the district from the hartal as a mass marriage ceremony is being held at the Perne Muchilot Bhagavathi Kshetra today.
Most of the roads of the district are wearing a deserted look. Shops have downed their shutters in various places and several schools too are not functioning. Attendance in government offices is also very lean.
There has been good response to the hartal call in Kanhangad and other places of the district and there has been no report of any untoward incident anywhere.
A protest march was also taken out in the town on Tuesday morning under the leadership of the LDF. TK Rajan, S Udaykumar, V Rajkan, EK Nair, K Kamalaksha, Bhujanga Shetty, Vijayan, Harish B Nambiar, Hameed Mogral and others took part in the protest march.
