Karavali Utsav 2014 commences in city

Mangalore: The coastal region of Karnataka is known all over the world for its culture and tradition, thus we must conserve and uplift our culture, said Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo during the Karavali Utsav 2014, the annual fair which commenced on Sunday January 12 at the exhibition grounds.

Further Lobo urged that Karavali Utsav must represent the Tulunadu and the people of Karavali. He compared the event to Goa Carnival and Gujarat Kite Festival and insisted that the even must be held grandly.

The inauguration of the Karavali Utsav was done by Former principal of St Aloysius College and writer Fr Prashant Madtha after which he addressed the audience. He expressed his ideologies on Unity among the people of Karavali and said that  Mangalore is a place that consist of nine languages like Tulu, Kannada, Konkani, English, Beary and others and still remains united. Mangalore is a fine  example for Unity in diversity and it is truly commendable, Lobo added.

The Karavali Utsav exhibition features a  stalls  offering wide variety of food, crafts, machinery items, household items, handloom, plastic items, and artefacts. The District in- charge and minister for forests and ecology Ramanath Rai inaugurated the exhibition.

 MLA Mohiuddin Bava,MCC Commissioner Ajith Hegde, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim and others were present. The Karavali Utsav will continue for the next 45 days.
