Mangalore: Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala inaugurated the Alva’s Vishwa Nudisiri Virasat-2013, at a colourful function held at Sundari Alva Campus, Vidyagiri on December 19, Thursday.













In his inaugural address, Dr Heggade expressed his great pleasure to inaugurate the event and was all praise for Dr Mohan Alva, the rallying force behind the splendid event. Dr Heggade further said literature and culture go a long way in making life meaningful.
Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Dr Alva said the even aimed at showcasing the cultural diaspora of the land and the deep attachment which the people have towards their land, literature and culture.
Eminent writer and former chancellor of Kannada University Hampi who presided over the function, said there is a need for Kannada voices to be held at the national level. It is only then that the rightful demands of kannadigas can get attention and be fulfilled, he said.
Strongly emphasising the need for a classical status to Kannada language, Prof. Rai said a classical status would go a long way in the development of the language. He also referred to the good progress registered by Tamil Language after it got a classical status.
Prof. Rai also said more and more Kannada literary works should be translated into various languages of the world and pointed out that not much of folk literature has been translated.
He also emphasised the need to protect the rural culture and life style and said he was against forceful industrialisation in rural areas.
Former Nudisiri presidents namely Dr Baragur Ramachandrappa, Dr SL Bhairappa, Dr Chandrashekhar Kambara, Prof. G Venkatasubbaiah, Dr Chennaveera Kanavi, Dr Hampa Nagarajaiah, Vaidehi, Dr KS Nisar Ahmed and the present president Dr BA Viveka Rai were honoured.
State Ministers B Ramanatha Rai, Vinaykumar Sorake, UT Khader, K Abhayachandra Jain, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Legislators Capt Ganesh Karnik, Sunil Kumar, former minister Amarnath Shetty, State Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Pundalika Halambi and others were present.
