Mangalore : Traders of the Kankanady market in the city have demanded a solution to several of their longstanding problems which are coming in the way of their business.

A press meet was convened in this regard jointly by the Kankanady Market Merchants Association, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and Kankanady Market Rickshaw and Taxi Park at Hotel Woodlands in the city on February 19, Wednesday.
Addressing the press meet, Ali Hassan, President of the Kankanady Market Merchants Association, said the several advertisement hoardings put up at the bus stand in front of the market have obstructed the view of the market place. Even the directive of the local MLA JR Lobo to the MCC Commissioner to remove the hoardings in the bus stand, has been of no use, he complained.
He said the market roofings are leaking during monsoons making business difficult. He also said the street vendors who are seen right from Kankanady to Jeppu market have reduced the business of traders in the market. He also drew the attention of the authorities towards the stray dog menace around the market place and added this has made people, particularly women, children and aged dread to enter the market place.
He urged the MCC to look into the problem and do the needful lest the Association would resort to a protest.
Kankanady market merchants Ashraf, Aftab Koya, Sunil, Prema, Arun Kumar, Lingappa and representatives of taxi and auto rickshaw drivers were present.
