Moodbidri : An enquiry by the Zilla Panchayat has revealed  embezzlement of funds exceeding Rs 5 lakhs in the implementation of drinking water  supply project between 2010 and 2013 in Kallamundkur Gram Panchayat. In this backdrop, the villagers are all geared up to take the Panchayat authorities to task at the Gram Sabha scheduled to be held on February 3, Monday.

A certain Satish Kallamundkur who had availed information through an RTI query had complained to the Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer regarding the irregularities  under the Water Supply Project. An investigation into the same revealed the misuse of funds exceeding Rs 5 lakhs. It has been gathered that funds meant for purchase of pumps and repair of pipelines were diverted  for some other purposes.

It has also come to light that  as against rules that self cheques  above Rs 50 cannot be withdrawn, the Panchayat had withdrawn thousands of rupees by issuing self cheques.

There  is every likelihood of officials serving the Panchayat between 2010 and 2013 facing action. It has been gathered that  notices have also been served  to a few Panchayat staff and the water committee of the Panchayat.
