NewsKarnataka-UppinangadyUppinangady: A housewife along with her six-month-old baby committed suicide by jumping into a lake, as she was fed up with mental torture of her husband.
The deceased has been identified as twenty-six-year-old Geeta and baby Nishma, residing at Rekhya village in Beltangady taluk.
Geeta, daughter of Janardhan Gowda, a native of Engira was married-off to Purushottam, residing in Balugodu village in Sullia taluk on April 12 2012. Geeta had arrived at her ancestral house along with her husband and their baby, in order to enrol their names in Aadhaar Card.
Geeta’s husband was harassing her to give the ownership of her ancestral property, despite her pleas that it was jointly held by her family. He was angry for not heeding to his demands and dropped her along with their baby in her ancestral home, and also threatened to marry another woman.
Geeta committed suicide by fastening her baby on her gird and jumping into the bloated lake nearby their plantation. She has left behind a note that states her husband and mother-in-law is responsible for her death. She had mentioned the constant tauntings and master plan to grab her ancestral property led to her take the drastic step.
Puttur Tahsildar Kulle Gowda visited the spot. Puttur rural circle inspector Suresh Kumar and Uppinangady sub-inspector Shivakumar are probing the case.
