Health Minister moots high-risk wards in taluk, govt hospitals

Mangalore, June 11:
State Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader has informed that all taluk hospitals in the state will have 5 high-risk wards and district hospitals ten such wards to   avoid complications in pregnancy and delivery cases.

Addressing a meeting of health department officials at the DC office in the city on Wednesday, June 11, the minister the high-risk wards will have all amenities including ventilators to tackle any emergency situation both pre and post-delivery. He said the government was also contemplating setting up one full-fledged hospital for every ten villages to deal with pregnancy and delivery cases.

Commenting on the practice of sending patients in government hospitals to private hospitals when their condition aggravates, the minister warned of stern action if there was any delay in treatment and danger to life.

ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activists) should also be in touch with pregnant women in their respective areas until they have a safe delivery, he said.

AB Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner suggested framing of guidelines in dealing with emergency situations in hospitals.

Dr Shivakumar, District Health Officer, Dr Rajeshwari Devi, Superintendent of Wenlock Hospital, Dr Shakuntala, Superintendent of Lady Goschen Hospital, Gertrude Veigas, Deputy Director of Department of Women and Child Welfare and others were present.
