Puttur :
The wife of a headmaster was found murdered in their house near the Uppinangady Church on Thursday June 5. The deceased is Pushpalatha (34), wife of Gurumurthi, Headmaster of Hirebandady Government High School.

The couple along with their two kids stayed at the rented house owned by Uppinangady church. While Gurumurthi was from Kollegal, Pushpalatha hailed from Byatarayanapura in Bangalore.

The gruesome act came to light when the children of Pushpalatha who came home from school for lunch found the door locked from outside and telephoned their father. Gurumurthi who was at school, rushed along with a colleague. They broke open the lock only to see Pushpalatha  in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor.

The suspicion is that the killer after eliminating Pushpalatha had locked the front door from outside. Though there are three houses in the vicinity, all are employed and all houses remained locked except that of Gurumurthi whose wife was a homemaker.

As wet clothes were found on the washing stone, it is suspected that the killer might have pounced on her while she was washing clothes.

Her husband informed the police that a gold chain which Pushpalatha used to wear was missing and that it weighed six sovereigns. However, her gold earrings  were left untouched.

SP Dr Sharanappa has visited the spot along with Puttur DySP Henry Mendonca, Circle Inspector Suresh Kumar and other policemen. Canine squad and finger print experts were also summoned.

Even Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty visited the spot and urged the police to nab the killer at the earliest.

Investigations are underway.
