Mangaluru: Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar here on Saturday November 29, said that the state government would declare its stand on language policy by January.

He told presspersons that a meeting would be held with the Advocate General and others on December 4 in this regard. The Minister said that the government would not give permission to any institution to open English-medium schools till the new policy is announced.
Moreover he informed that the government has been studying language policies of the neighbouring States.
Referring to the Supreme Court’s judgment on language policy, he said the court passed its order according to its interpretation of the Constitution.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written letters to the Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharastra and Andhra Pradesh seeking information on their experience in implementing language policy.
He reiterated that the government would recruit over 16,000 teachers by June.
Activist B Srinivas Kakkilaya, Balila Krishna Shashtri, Murali Kadekar and Hameed Manjeshwar decided to submit a file to the Minister on how quality in classroom teaching at government schools could be enhanced without any burden on the State exchequer.
