Weekend fun claims the life of a student in Bantwal

Bantwal: A 15-year-old student was drowned on Saturday November 29, after he ventured into the river along with his friend here at B.C Road in the outskirts of the city.

The deceased has been identified as Sharath Kumar (15), son of Shekhar Acharya, who was residing in a rented house in Ganadpadpu at B.C Road.

According to the reports, Sharath had left home at around 3.30 pm on Saturday along with his friend Prajwal. Sharath, who did not know to swim, slipped into deeper areas of the river after his legs got stuck in the lush.

Sharath was dragged deeper by strong current, Prajwal, realizing the seriousness of the situation, shouted for help.

On hearing the alarm, the locals rushed to the help. They succeeded in bringing Sharath out, but by then he had breathed his last, the police said.

A large number of people gathered at the spot immediately after the news spread. The police have registered the case.
