Mangalore: The Directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) officials along with the MIA authorities seized 283.26grams of gold worth Rs 8.78lakhs concealed under a seat of an aircraft at the international airport in Mangalore on Tuesday March 4.
The gold that was found in the Jet Airways aircraft which arrived from Dubai at around 5.30am although was abandoned and none of the passengers claimed the ownership over the seized gold.
Further investigation has revealed that a person who brought this gold from Dubai had intentionally as per the plan got off from the aircraft at the airport wherein his associate would further continue to travel by the same aircraft to Mumbai, duly collecting this bag after boarding the flight.
The officials said on earlier occasions as well such smuggling tactics have been adopted by the gold smugglers.
