Mangalore: Irrespective of the measures taken by the customs officials, the act of gold smuggling has become a daily affair.On February 4, Tuesday, Mangalore International Airport witnessed three attempts to smuggling gold worth Rs 65.29 lacs.



In the first case, the customs officers seized 13 gold coils, totally weighing 999.650 grams, valued at Rs 29, 78,957 from a passenger identified as Basheed Choori Abdul Rahiman, a resident of Uliyathadukka, Kasaragod.
The gold coils were concealed in an electric hot plate stove belonging to Basheed. He arrived at the airport at around 5.30 am by Jet Airways flight 9W531 from Dubai.
In the second case, the officers seized two gold wires totally weighing 699.900 grams, valued at Rs 20, 85,702 from a passenger Nazar Thekkupuram, a resident of Thekkupuram at Kasaragod. The gold was hidden in an aluminum frame of suitcase. He had arrived at the airport at 7.45 am from Air India Express flight IX814, Dubai.
In the third case, the officers seized four circular plates made of gold totally weighing 491.650 grams, valued at Rs 14, 65,117 from Abdul Sathar Kasaragod, a resident of Pallikere at Kasaragod.
The gold was cloaked in two shielded hot cases that were found in the luggage. He arrived at the Airport around 7.45 am Air India Express flight IX814 from Dubai.
Altogether, gold weighing 2,191.200 grams, valued at Rs 65, 29,776 was seized in the three cases.
The accused were arrested and produced before the judicial magistrate.
Further investigation is under progress in all the three cases.
