Gold wires worth 12lakhs seized by customs at Mangalore airport

Mangalore: The customs officials at Mangalore International Airport have seized gold worth Rs 12.14 lac from a Dubai bound passenger on Tuesday January 21.

The commuter has been identified as Abdul Basheer Puthiyavalappu Moideenkutty, who hails from Chengala in Kasargod.

According to the officials Abdul was trying to smuggle five gold wires coated with silver paint weighing around 406 grams which is worth Rs 12, 14,478 moreover Abdul had obscured the thin gold wire in the beading of the suitcase.

It was learnt that Abdul arrived at the airport on January 21 at around 7.45 am by Air India Express flight IX 814 from Dubai.

The officials are still investigating the matter.
