Udupi: Mohammed Yaseer, who had allegedly uploaded obscene photos on Facebook showing him with a girl in a compromising position, has been granted bail.
The incident had created a lot of chaos in the district and protests were held leading to Yaseer’s arrest on January 10 after the girl filed a complaint against him in Manipal police station.
The police officials stated that according to the girl’s complaint, Yaseer had deliberately uploaded the photos online to blackmail the girl. It is also known that Yaseer and the girl had been involved in a love affair for almost 10 months.
Though various organizations have been demanding police to frame rape charges against the accused, the girl admitted to the police that the photos were taken with her knowledge and consent. Hence, the police could not book Yaseer for rape.
Earlier ABVP, Sangparivar and other organization demanded the police to book Yaseer under rape charges. But the SP of Udupi, MB Boralingaiah said, “Yaseer and the girl had an affair for 10 months, Yaseer had another girlfriend at Dubai and this triangle might have lead cause for this incident.”
Thus as Yaseer faces only cyber crime charges, the district court agreed to release him on bail, he added.
