Mangalore: The Fifth Global Konkani Music Award presentation ceremony was held at Kalaangann at Shaktinagar in Mangalore on December 8, Sunday. The Awards are instituted by Mandd Sobhann, the well-known Konkani cultural organisation.
Eminent Konkani musician and Octogenarian Fr Walter Albuquerque was presented the Mandd Sobhann Global Konkani Music Lifetime Achievement Award on the occasion. The event was more momentous for Albuquerque, a Jesuit Priest as it happened to be his 90th birthday.
The Global Konkani Music Awards in six categories were presented by JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South who was present as a chief guest. The awardees are : The Best Singer (Female) award -Anita D’Souza, Best Singer (Male) Award- Lawry Travasso of Goa; Best Music Composer-Sidhanath Buyao (Goa), Best Lyricist- Wilson Sequeira Kateel; Best Music Arranger Award- Roshan D’Souza, Angelore; Best Music Album award- Ajith Peter D’Souza for his album ‘Tujye Vengent’.
Cecille Rodrigues, finalist of Zee TV DID Supermoms was conferred the title of ‘Dancing Queen of Konkani’ by J R Lobo.
Mangalore Konkans Dubai President James Mendonca, Mandd Sobhann President Louis Pinto, Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, Eric Correa, philanthropist and others were present.
In his address JR Lobo hailed the achievements of the awardees and urged Konkanis to promote their language.
Spectacular dance shows by Nephie Rod from Mumbai accompanied by Nach Sobhann troupe entertained the gathering.
Lavita Lobo and Titus Noronha compered the programme.
