4 caught smuggling gold, US dollars, cash at Mangalore airport

Mangalore: The act of smuggling does not seem to be ending despite stern  security measures taken by the customs officials. Another case of smuggling has come to light at Mangalore International Airport on Sunday December 8, wherein an attempt was made to smuggle gold worth Rs 50 lacs.   A cash bag containing 9,000 American dollars and Rs 1.5 lac in cash was also seized.

Reportedly four people were arrested on charges of smuggling. If two were passengers hiding the gold in their trouser pockets, the other two had arrived to receive the former at the airport.

Two of the arrested  are identified as Umar Farooq (29) and Syed Pakayar Madam (25), both residents of Tekkila, Kasargod. They arrived from Dubai by Air India Express flight.While the other two named  Abdul Nisar (31) and K Mohammed Kunhi also residents Kasargod, came to receive Umar Farooq and Syed Pakayar Madam at the airport and were arrested from the waiting area.
