Mangaluru: “Gauri Lankesh through her fearless journalism fought against the fascist elements throughout her life”, said Shiva Sundar.

Speaking at “Gauri Lankesh Nenapu Mattu Abhivyakthi Avalokana” programme organised by Mahila Daurjanaya Virodhi Vedike at Saint Aloysius College hall on October 2, Shiva Sundar, a close aide of Gauri Lankesh stated that she spoke her mind and never compromised in upholding the constitutional morality throughout her journalism career. Gauri Lankesh through her writing and activism was against the fascist forces and became the voice of voiceless people, he recalled.

“The bullets that hit Gauri were fired on the freedom of expression. Growing corporate culture and Hindutva are threats to the country’s democratic setup. The character and morality in journalism is declining. The people who rule us do want us to have a thinking mind. They are creating a fear and illusion. And those who expose the truth will be killed. Ten journalists are being killed in the country since 23 May 2014. Those who question the system are being targeted. Gauri was not a leftist or a communist. She has not stuck to any particular ideology. But she had social concern”, he said.

He also said that the growing trend of fascism in the country had entered the legislature as well which was a dangerous trend.

Journalist Harish Kumar Kugve and Chancellor of Akkamahadevi Women’s University Dr. Sabiha Bhoomi Gowda also spoke on the occasion.

B M Rohini and Fr. Praveen Martis were present in the programme.
