Udupi : A 32 ft tall single stone sculpture of Saint Madhwacharya with 10 ft Padma Peetha and 28 feet basement will be installed at Kunjarugiri. The foundation for the same was laid by Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji of Sri Admar Mutt and Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha Swamiji of Sri Palimar Mutt on Thursday March 21.







The Durga Temple which was installed by Lord Parashurama in a high mound, is popularly known as Kunjarugiri. Moreover it is believed that the high hills are the abodes of Shree Durga and Lord Parashurama.
The project of Madhwacharya sculpture costs Rs 1.5 crore. The stone was brought from Devanahalli in Bangalore. The land of Kunjarugiri has its importance because it is the birthplace of Madhwacharya. It is also famous as “Vimanagiri” as Madhwacharya is said to be the son of Gods. The statue of Madhwacharya will be placed in the midst of Durga and Parashurama Temples.
Sumadhwa Vijaya gives a detailed elaboration about the place while describing the significance of Pajaka Kshetra, the birth place of Jagadguru Sri Madhwacharya. Sumadhwa Vijaya refers to the place as Vimanagiri, the abode of Lord Krishna’s sister Durga, installed by Lord Parashurama (the 6th incarnation of Lord Vishnu).
Renowned sculptor Ashok Gudigar is the sculptor, with 50-60 sculptors. The sculpting work of the statue is expected to get over by May.
The statue is sculpted as per the explanation in Madhwacharya’s own spiritual guide ‘Tantrasara’. It says a perfect man will have 32 features- and only God has these qualities.
The devotees feel the spiritual solace and the potent protection at the feet of Durgadevi. The holy atmosphere in and around the shrine, the holy Theerthas, the Lord Parashurama Temple and further the statue will attract pilgrims and make them understand the importance of Madhwacharya’s life.
