Mangalore: A youngster died in a road accident at Kolnad in Mulki on Wednesday May 28, late in the evening.

The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Anish Shetty, son of former Mulki town panchayat president Shashikant Shetty.

Reportedly Anish and his friend Rakesh Shettigar were riding from Mulki to Haleangady, after a game of cricket, when a car plying towards Mundkur from Mangalore slammed into their vehicle.

Anish died on the spot, while Rakesh sustained serious gruesome injuries and is said to be in a critical.

According to the police the accident took place as the car changed lanes all of a sudden and swerved towards the right leading to the collision.

It is also learnt that due to the highway work that has been going on for some time now, these diversion are made that are increasing the number of accidents.

Anish had just finished his PU studies. He was the younger among Shashikant’s two children.

A case has been registered at Mulki police station.
