Fishing boat partially gutted in fire; 6 fishermen taken ill

Kasargod : A boat which was anchored on the shores at Uduma Trikkannad was partially gutted in a fire mishap on April 1, Tuesday. Six fishermen who had struggled to put out the fire, have fallen ill and have been hospitalised.

The mishap took place after the boat was anchored on completion of  a fishing expedition. Smoke pervaded the boat within a few hours after the fishermen left. As soon as the fire was noticed, fishermen Kunhiraman (44), Santosh (34), Sunil (28), Chandran, Ragesh and Ravi  rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire. Later the fire service personnel arrived and doused the fire.

The loss  has been estimated at several lakhs of rupees. As the boat owner has raised suspicion over the cause of the fire, police are investigating the case.
