Fisheries Minister inspects Malpe bunder

Udupi: The Fisheries Minister Abhaychandra Jain inspected the development of the third phase of Malpe bunder, which is Rs.37.15 Crore project at Baputhota on Tuesday June 10.

After the visit he briefed the media about various projects works at the district including the plan of fourth phase of Malpe bunder, which stretches across 600-meter length.

He informed that to control the over lapping of the boats in the Malpe bunder, forced to think about 4th phase. Experts will visit the area and draw the estimation plan, shortly, he said.

To control the sea-erosion a permanent solution is a must, for that Kerala model should be adopted, he suggested.

He said that a temporary stone wall will not last more than a year. Under Asian Development Project ADP, a proposal worth Rs 911 Crore is sent to the center for approval.

He assured that the ice plant owners will be backed by the state government. There is no question to shutdown of ice plants in state because of financial crisis. Government will provide necessary subsides in power supply like Kerala and Goa model.

He said the most expected Hejmadi bunder which will be built at the cost of Rs 122 Crore is sent to the center for approval. A group of Ministers from the state will visit the Union Fisheries minister to procure the approval for the project.

Under NABARD, 100 meter length jetties are constructed in Hangarukatte, Kodikanyana and Gangolli ports at the cost of Rs 206 lakh, 300 lakh and 300 lakh respectively.

The break water construction project at Gangolli cost Rs. 3 crores. The construction work of Maravanthe port outside area cost Rs. 45 crores, Koderi boat anchoring place  cost Rs. 30 crores, Guide wall construction project at Shiroor port costing 9.8 crores is in progress, he added.

However he assured to hold talks with the officials and take necessary step to control the speed and spilling the ice water on the road by fishing Lorries which cause accident during the rainy season.
