Mangalore(DH): K N Somashekar, public petitioner, is all set to approach the National Green Tribunal with the support of environmental organizations, at the earliest.
This move comes after the suggestion of the Karnataka State High Court to withdraw a public petition against proposed Yetthinahole drinking water project and take up alternative remedy in National Green Tribunal.
“To approach the Green Tribunal,which is in Chennai, we need to have at least four to five batteries of lawyers. Organizations which fought against mining and Shabari Malai airport in Kerala have also joined hands with us. Here along with strong documents; we should have unity and money. So, we are organizing all groups to give a shape of political movement to it. We will form a coordinating committee and volunteers will take charge of activities in various Villagers to file complaint” he said.
He said that a team of environmentalists, political leaders of all parties and religious leaders who are opposing Yetthinahole project will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister for Environment and department secretaries to convey about the dan.
Meanwhile, he said that July 1 will be celebrated as Western Ghat Day.
Environmentalist KN Somashekar said all environmentalists have decided to form an experts panel or seniors council to present issues related to the Yetthinahole project. People of all 10 districts will be organized for future struggle against the project and environmentalists Dinesh Holla and Niranjan Rai will be the conveners.
Meanwhile, he said,”people’s representatives must clear their stand on Yetthinahole project; else they will be responsible for future happenings.Within8-10days, we will call another meeting to collect funds from public. Anyone who loves nature can donate one rupee for a good cause on the occasion,” he said.
