Moodbidri : A fire mishap in an area in close proximity to electricity towers in Mastikatte and Puttige Panchayat limits on March 7, Friday  afternoon caused tense moments  among the locals. However, the timely operation of the fire service personnel and the public helped in averting a major casualty.

The fire was noticed  beneath the  towers which connect hi-tension power lines to the Soham Hydro Power Station in the Hanneradu Kavalu area of  Thakode. The  dry grass in the area were engulfed in the fire . Several houses were located in the vicinity and  the fire service personnel with the help of public ensured that the fire did not spread further.

There are over 52 towers of the Soham power unit with the transmission lines passing through five villages namely Iruvail, Puchamogaru, Hosabettu, Todar and Puttige.

It is learnt, the  plant has suspended power generation since January last.  Though a technical snag is said to be the cause of the fire so far the company has not come up with any clarification.
