Mangalore :As the clock struck 12 at midnight, there were  loud cheers, fireworks abound, fun, frolic and excitement in the air  as  thousands of people who had  gathered  in various hotels, restaurants, pubs and other places in the city and elsewhere ,  greeted the New Year 2014 in great style.

People, particularly youngsters danced to their heart’s content to welcome the New Year  and hoping that the New Year would bring  happiness galore to everyone.

The Police Department had  maintained a strict vigil to ensure peace during the New Year celebrations. Mangalore City Police Commissioner R Hithendra had even laid down several guidelines for  people to adhere to during New Year celebrations and had also said that no unlawful or moral policing incidents will be tolerated.
