Mangalore: The district unit of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday May 28.

The DYFI demanded reopening of the investigation into the murder of Rajesh Poojary of Bajarang Dal who was recently hacked to death in Kalpane. DYFI claimed that innocents have been jailed in the case.

Addressing the protestors, DYFI state president Munir Katipalla said, “Police have arrested innocents in the case. The police have booked Irshad (21), Husain (20), and Imran (20), who are daily wage workers and had nothing to do with Poojary.”

Urging the SP to once again probe the murder of Rajesh Poojary, he said “We don’t trust the probe conducted by Lingappa Poojary and Bantwal circle inspector Rajeshshekar Mistry.”

He added that the police have merely made arrests because of the pressure from the Bajarang Dal and VHP; the police have arrested innocents instead of the real culprits, he alleged.

“Though the families have contacted MLAs Moideen Bava and Ramanath Rai, they have only been assured verbally of a re-investigation, but no action has been taken, if so we will protest in front of their houses, warned Katipalla.

During the protest Dayananda Shetty, district secretary, Bhava Padarengi, social activist, Jabber Mallur, Shahidha, Imran’s mother, Nebisa, Irshad’s mother, and Mohammed Asif, Irshad’s brother, Santosh Bajal and others were present.
