District Admin geared to Combat Floods

Madikeri :The zilla panchayat vice president Biddanda Ushadevamma instructed  the officers to keep vigil over natural calamities that are foreseen owing the torrential rains across the district, Cauvery River basin and neighbouring villages, since it has damaged houses and compound walls, traffic disruption and sapped electricity supply. 

Ushadevamma while speaking during the progressive review meeting, said that traffic was disrupted in Karadigodu, Cheriyaparambu, Bhagamandala and neighbouring regions owing to torrential rains and instructed the officers of PWD, forest department, revenue department, Panchayat Raj department and state-owned electricity supplier CESC to solve different issues in their jurisdiction. 

The agriculture and industries steering Committee president Ballaranda Maniuttappa advised the officers to respond to the needs of people affected by floods as the torrential rains continue to lash across the district. 

Kannada Jagruti Samiti president T P Ramesh urged the forest and PWD to jointly operate to clear the trees that are uprooted on the roads.  He also urged the forest department officials to take early actions to curb wild elephants menace during the broad daylight in coffee estates that are located in Chelavara and Cheyyandane regions.

The zilla panchayat CEO K B Anjanappa said that the district administration has taken all the precautions to help the people affected by floods and if necessary gruel centers will be opened, said Anjanappa.
