IMA to honour 3 doctors to commemorate Doctors Day

Mangalore : Indian Medical Association (IMA) Mangalore Branch shall be observing Doctors Day on July 6, Saturday at Dr. A.V. Rao Conference Hall, IMA House, Mangalore at 8:30 p.m. U.T. Khadar, StateMinister for Health and Family Welfare,  will be the chief guest.

On the occasion, IMA Mangalore will felicitate three prominent members of the association on the basis of their professional excellence, service to IMA and service to society. The three nominees are: Dr. Ganesh S. Pai, Dr. M. Vijaykumar and Dr. Gayatri Ramani. Though Doctors Day is observed on 1st of July, IMA Mangalore has scheduled its celebrations for 6th July due to non-availability of the date.

1st July is celebrated throughout India as Doctors Day in honour of the legendary Physician and Second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Bharat Ratna Dr. B.C. Roy (1882 – 1962)

Dr. B.C. Roy was also one of the stalwarts of medical profession responsible for establish Indian Medical Association in 1928.  IMA presently one of the world’s largest associations of professionals and has over 1,78,000 members and 1700 local branches.

IMA Mangalore branch founded in 1930, is one of the oldest branches in the country. Today it has its own building and is actively functioning under the leadership of its president Dr. Manjunath Shenoy and Secretary, Dr. Nithish Bhandary.
