Deputy Librarian of Mangalore University ends life by hanging

Mangalore : Dr Siddalingappa S Kumbar (46), Deputy Librarian of Mangalore University, has  reportedly ended his life  in an isolated place in the University campus on June 27, Thursday. His body was found hanging from a tree.

Dr Kumbar had not attended duty on June 26, Wednesday. When he was also not at home, a search was launched and his body found  in the isolated place.

Dr Kumbar who hailed from Bijapur stayed in the staff quarters of the University with his family. The reason that drove him to the extreme step is not yet clear.

However, his wife Revamma in a complaint lodged with the police said her husband had remained disturbed ever since  his ailing sister died. She also stated in the complaint that Kumbar was also hurt as he could not attend the last rites of his sister  due to academic commitments of his children.

It is learnt, he had been to his native place with his family two months ago to visit his sick sister. It is said his wife then had stayed back, while he had returned with his children.

Dr Kumbar has been serving Mangalore University since 1991. He was an Assistant Librarian initially and later was promoted as Deputy Librarian in 2007. He  was a first rank holder in PG Library and Information Science from Dharwad University. Dr  Kumar also was awarded Ph.D from Mangalore University.
