DC reviews District’s preparedness to handle floods

Mangaluru: The Deputy Commissioner has asked all relief agencies to be prepared for flood relief emergency operations during monsoon this year. He has instructed the officials to give a list of places which are likely to get affected in case of flash floods due to excess rainfall in the district within a week.

During the preparatory meeting he said, parts of Dakshina Kannada is receiving rainfall over the last few days. The rains may intensify and cause damage in certain areas during monsoon .He stressed the need to be on guard in advance to combat floods and damages due gusty winds.

The people in low lying areas must be alerted in advance and relief centers must be established to provide food and shelter at the right time. The tahasildars must visit and convey all the relevant information to the district administration at regular intervals. The police, home guards and other emergency services must offer their support to the district administration as and when the need arises.

Addressing the meeting ADC Kumar said last year Rs 9 lac was distributed for emergency aid. This year too information should be provided on the amount spent for relief operations in emergency situations.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Rajendra , Ashok, Captain Anjaney , N .Umesh among others.
