Bantwal : Various organisations under the aegis of the District Dalita Seva Samithi organised a protest in front of the Tahsildar’s office here on January 27, Monday  to condemn the  policy of delay pursued by the Revenue Department in  clearing the encroachment of  land earmarked for  ex-servicemen and SC/ST beneficiaries in the taluk.

BK Sesappa Bedrakadu, District President of Dalita Seva Samithi who addressed the agitators said  injustice was being done to the Dalit community over various issues in the district. Recalling that the Samithi had taken out a jatha  to the DC office   in January 2011  enlisting its demands, Sesappa said later the  administration  had earmarked  123.74 acre land  in June 2012 for the SC beneficiaries, 10 acres to ex-servicemen, 1.26 acres for backward classes and 144 acres to other beneficiaries. It was when  the landless applied for sites and during survey of land that it came to light that the land has been encroached at some places including Barimar, Vittlapadnur, Salettur, Veerakambha, Kadeshwalya and other places.

None of the applicants have received sites and this revealed the negligence of the District Administration and Revenue officials,he further alleged.

Chandrashekhar,  General Secretary of the District Dalita Seva Samithi, Somappa Surulimoole, Honorary Advisor,  Chandra I, Puttur unit President, and several others participated in the protest.

The agitators submitted a memorandum to the Tahsildar. The protest was withdrawn upon an assurance that steps would be taken to solve the problem within one month.
