Cricket brawl leads to stabbing of youth

Moodbidri : A brawl between two groups during a cricket match at Todar  near here  culminating in the  stabbing of the eye of a player of the rival team on December 29, Sunday morning.

A cricket tourney was underway on the grounds close by the Tenkamijar Anganavadi Kendra at Todar close by the Moodbidri-Mangalore National Highway since December 28, Saturday evening. A match between Puttige and Jokatte teams was underway on Sunday morning. It is learnt there  erupted a clash between the two teams over  the runs scored at around 7.30 am when Saleem of Jokatte team, took out a knife and pierced the eyes of Samshuddin of Handelu.

Though locals  tried to trap him, he  stopped a bus after brandishing the knife at the driver and then escaped in the bus, said eyewitnesses. The injured has been admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore. Moodbidri police are investigating.
