Young man slips to death near Kambala venue

Bantwal :A young man met a tragic end  when he accidentally slipped into a  lake filled with slush, close by the venue of the historic Veera-Vikrama Jodukere Kambala at Hokkadigoli near Siddakatte on December 28, Saturday night.

The deceased is Rajesh Bhat (26), son of Ramakrishna Bhat, a resident of near Mahaveera college, Moodbidri. The Kambala was cancelled following the tragedy.

The Kambala had begun on Saturday morning and the pandal was put up by the RK Enterprises owned by Rajesh. At around 11 pm  Rajesh  had inspected the  works close by the place where the buffaloes  are released into water  at the Kambala fields and had also spoken to his workers. It is suspected that he slipped and drowned when he had been to the nearby area to answer nature’s call. It is learnt, his face was caught in the slush and he was immediately lifted and rushed to the Moodbidri hospital where he breathed his last.

Punjalakatte police have registered a case as per the complaint lodged by Ramakrishna Bhat, the father of the deceased youth.

Kambala cancelled:  This is said to be the first such tragedy during the historic Kambala. It is said the RK Enterprises used o make  pandal arrangements for the Kambala despite the organisers facing financial crunch. Suresh Shetty, advocate and Kambala Samithi President has informed that the Kambala would be held on some other day as fixed by the District Kambala Committee before the Kambala season ended.
