Kasargod:The murder of a CPI(M) worker at Uduma Mangad in Kasargod on September 16, Monday night has once again sparked tension in Kasargod.
The town is observing a bundh on September 17, Tuesday in protest against the murder. CPI(M) activist MB Balakrishna (45), a tempo driver was brutally stabbed by some unidentified assailants while he was returning home in his bike at around 9 pm on Monday. A critically injured Balakrishna was rushed to the hospital by locals who spotted him. However, his life could not be saved. The body was then taken to the Periyaram Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem.
As news spread there were reports of minor clashes in some places. Police however averted further untoward incidents by stepping up security.
Meanwhile, a bundh is being observed in the town on Tuesday. All shops and business establishments have been closed and even buses and vehicles are off the roads. Tight security has been maintained in the town.
The CPI(M) has suspected the hands of the Muslim League and the Congress behind the killing. The Bekal police have spread a dragnet to nab the killers.
