Court convicts youth in rape and murder case; pronounces life term

Moodabidri: The VI additional district and sessions court has convicted a man in connection to rape and murder case.

The convict Harish Kulal, 24 has been sentenced to life term for killing a 22-year-old girl hailing from Padukonaje in Moodabidre after raping her.

According to reports the victim was dragged to an isolated location on her way back home on May 16, 2011, she was then raped and strangulated by Kulal.

When the victim’s father went in search of his daughter that evening, the accused pretended to show his innocence by assisting the victims father in  search operation. However, Kulal was arrested the very next day  with the victim’s belongings.

A total of 22 witnesses were deposed before the Court, including the close friend of the accused.

The judge asked the victims father to avail compensation from the legal service cell and also recover the penalty amount  related to punishment .

The accused  was initially lodged in Mangalore jail but was shifted to Madikeri  and Mysore and is now as a convict is lodged in Bangalore due to his erroneous  behavior.
