Councillor among 6 booked for vandalising Brahmarakootlu Toll Plaza

Bantwal, April 27 : Cases have been registered against as many as six persons including Bantwal Municipal Councillor Mohammad Sharif by the police  for going on a rampage and vandalising the Brahmarakootlu Toll Plaza on Saturday April 26.

As per the complaint lodged with police  nearly 25 persons including Sharif Pallam Adam, Azeez, Sameer Salam and others had came in three autorickshaws, two cars and over 10 bikes and went on a rampage. The complaint said that the loss incurred stands at Rs 10 lakhs.

It is said Sharif picked up a quarrel with the toll gate staff for collecting toll from an acquaintance who was in a vehicle behind. Many who arrived from Shantiangady area later destroyed the toll booth, the computer, CC Camera  and other goods and even assaulted the toll gate staff Ranjith, Nizam, Satyaraj, Vijay and others. A staff named Satyeri Jadhav of Belgaum was also assaulted and robbed of his mobile phone and gold chain apart from a cash of Rs one lakh, says a complaint lodged by the Toll Plaza manager.

The CCTV though has been damaged, the footages are said to be  intact.

SP Dr Sharanappa, Bantwal DySP Rashmi Parady and other senior police officials  have visited the spot and have directed that the accused  be arrested immediately. Additional police security has been provided in the area.

 Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said Bantwal Circle Inspector Rajashekhar Mistri  though had arrived at the spot when the assailants were going on rampage, had left the place saying he had some urgent work.

An incident wherein activists of an organisation misbehaved with some journalists of a private channel also took place.
