Cops nab 3 for robbing Mumbai jewel merchants in city

Mangalore : Three men who had looted gold  jewellery worth nearly Rs 7.65 lakh from two Mumbai based merchants, have been arrested by the Barke police on October 8, Tuesday.

Those arrested are  Anil Kumar Sharma (38) from Uttar Pradesh, Vijesh Kumar alias Vijju (25) of Jeppu and Richmond alias Richie (27) of Vamanjoor. The recovered valuables include silver jewellery weighing 4. 3 kg,  gold jewellery weighing 177 grams,  a cash of Rs 1.15 lakhs, a Swift car and a Pulsar bike.

The three had looted jewelers namely Narayanlal Kamavat and Mangilal Kamavat when they had been to Mangalore  to sell jewellery on September 29. In Mangalore they had got in touch with Anil Sharma and  when the jewelers were travelling in a  car driven by Vijesh Kumar, another accused Richmond followed them. When Anil Sharma began to smoke, Vijesh objected and the former stepped out of the car to smoke in the open. Vijesh then said the car wasn’t starting and asked the jewelers to push the car and as soon as they got out, Vijesh fled the place with all the jewels in the car.

If Anil Sharma was arrested within two days of the incident,  the rest were arrested on the basis of the information provided by  him. In fact it was Anil Sharma who had summoned the jewellery merchants to Mangalore.
