Bangalore: The intense lobbying by the supporters of senior leader B Janardhana Poojari as well as Union Minister Veerappa Moily’s son Harsha Moily for a Lok Sabha ticket from Mangalore constituency, seems to be compelling the party leadership to go in for an internal polls to choose the candidate.
A delegation of Congress leaders met CM Siddaramaiah and KPPC chief G Parameshwara on January 23, Thursday seeking a ticket for senior leader B Janardhana Poojary even as Union Minister Veerappa Moily is trying to get a ticket for his son Harsha Moily irrespective of all odds.
The leadership which is now finding it tough to choose a candidate from the prestigious constituency may all likely consider an internal poll.
On Thursday, nearly 300 members including party MLAs John Richard Lobo, B A Mohiuddin Bava and K Vasanth Bangera, former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty, block Congress presidents of the constituency, Congress Corporators of Mangalore, ZP members and other leaders, urged met the CM and placed forth a demand for an LS ticket for Poojari.
Poojary’s supporters had come to Bangalore in three special buses.
The KPCC election committee had, in its recent meeting, decided to recommend only Poojary’s name as the probable candidate from Mangalore parliamentary constituency to the high command. But Harsha Moily’s name was later included in the list before sending it to Delhi. Harsha is said to be in the inner circles of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and has supervised the campaign arrangements for Ramya in Mandya by-elections to Lok Sabha.
