Udupi: Vijaykumar Shetty, District President of Rashtriya Vidhyarthi Poshak Vedike has urged the student unions to drop the call for a bundh on January 25, Saturday demanding a University sub-centre in Udupi.
Speaking to the media personnel on Thursday January 24, Shetty said that the attempts are made to convince the University authorities to set-up University sub-centre in Udupi. The University has put forth the requisition to the government to appoint 2 staff and 2 class rooms in government college Udupi to start a University sub-centre.
He said Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Jayaprakash Hedge has taken initiative in this regard and has written letters to the Vice- Chancellor and has spoken to Education Minister R V Deshpande over the issue to which Udupi District in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake has asked 3 months time for the same.
He added that nearly 40000 students in Udupi study in various colleges which is under Mangalore University thus a sub-centre of the University should be set up in Udupi.
He requested all student unions to postpone the protest and assured of full support of the Vedike if government and university failed to provide any solution in this regard within three months.
