Bantwal : A man hailing from Kushalnagar in Madikeri who came to Sarapady on Wednesday July 2 posing himself as a Good Samaritan intending to give a new life to a young girl who is now back home after being kidnapped, was given a good thrashing by public before handing him over to the police.
The accused is Lakshmana Poojary (33), a resident of Kushalnagar Shuntikoppa Hosakatte who worked as a Dosa maker at a hotel at Dharmasthala since some time. It is learnt, he had come to know through acquaintances about the minor girl from Sarapady who was kidnapped and subsequently rescued by the police on April 17. Believing that none would come forward to marry the girl, he, by posing himself as an ideal man had intended to seek the girl’s hand in marriage.
He thus had arrived at Sarapady with a paper cutting of the news as well as the address and first visited a neighbouring house of the girl. The occupants of the house who suspected his intentions enquired about his whereabouts.
They informed the police and soon his true colour-that he was an already married man with a kid, came to light. It is learnt,he had abandoned his wife three years ago and she was working as an attender in a local TMC and leading a life with another man.
The man has been arrested on charges of cheating. He is likely to be produced before the court on Thursday July 3.
