Mangaluru: Traffic police got into action in the city making helmets for pillion riders compulsory from today, February 1. Several rule breakers were caught and fined early morning on Monday.

Earlier, the state government had extended the grace period for compulsory wearing of helmets for riders and pillion riders by 10 days to February 1.

Even though the rule of compulsorily wearing helmets came into force on January 20, the police had received several requests from the people seeking time. Considering these requests, the final grace period was extended by 10 days.

But now that the grace period is up, any pillion rider found without a helmet will be pulled up and fined.
