Mangalore : The annual Namma Kudla ‘Goodu Deepa’ contest organised at Shree Gokarnanatha Temple at Kudroli on November 1, to add colour to the Diwali celebrations attracted a large crowd. The Goodu Deepas in varied shapes, sizes and colours were a great visual treat.












Over 500 Goodu Deepas were on display at the Temple premises which presented a whole new look.
The 11 feet tall lantern made of coconut shell by Kulshekhar Master Guys and the Taj Mahal Goodu Deepa were some of the creations that attracted large crowds.
All the winners were awarded gold coins. On this occasion Dr Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation was conferred the ‘Namma Kudla-2013’ Award, while Sadananda Shetty, President of Shree Devi Education Trust, was presented the Namma Tuluveru Award.
A special talent award was presented to Shreyank S Kotian, a student of St Aloysius School.
A host of dignitaries including State Minister Abhayachandra Jain, former minister Krishna Palemar, MCC Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde, Sairam, President of Temple Management Committee, Dr BG Suvarna, Bhasker Rai Kukkuvalli, Harish Karkera, Leelaksha Karkera, Mohan Karkera and Suresh Karkera were present.
