Managluru: Cricket mania has gripped the coastal city Mangaluru after local lad K L Rahul shot to fame. Recently concluded MPL provided perfect arena for youngsters to exhibit their talent.

The best prepared for the next season are the bat makers from Maharashtra, who have invaded a street in Mangaluru. The handmade colorful bats are available at throwaway prices and the bat makers are quite confident of reaping good profits by selling them in plenty.

Bats are being made to suit players of all age groups, beginning with toddlers. The colorful strips on bats enhance their appearance forcing the passersby to take a closer look at the bat.

The entire family from Maharashtra which arrived in the city a fortnight ago is busy carving bats of Waru wood.

Speaking to News Karnataka.com, the street bat vendor said, bats are priced in the range of Rs 150-450 and the ones meant for small kids are most sought after.
When cricket buffs are looking forward to the forthcoming IPL season, children in anticipation of summer holidays are rushing towards Kadri Park on NH 66 to pick the bat of their choice to play ‘Gully Cricket’.
