Mangalore: Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed in Mangalore on July 26, Friday to commemorate the 14th anniversary of Indias historic win in the Kargil war.





Tributes were paid to the great soldiers who laid down their lives for the cause of the nation during the war, at a function held at Lions Seva Mandir under the aegis of the DK District Ex-Servicemens Association and Lions Club.
Inaugurating the programme, Disha Amrith, an engineering student from Bangalore, said she derived great inspiration from the sacrifices made by the valiant soldiers. She said each and every individual should remember the great men who toiled for the cause of the nation.
The function was presided over by KC Prabhu, Lions District Governor. On this occasion, ex-servicemen Noel Lobo, Cyril D’Souza, Purushottam Acharya and Alexander D’Silva were honoured in recognition of their distinguished services.
Organisers of the programme Rajesh Kamath, Bhasker Pai and S Nandagopal were present on the occasion.
Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed by the District unit of ABVP also at the War Memorial at Kadri. ABVP Secretary B Ramesh and others spoke on the occasion and paid tributes to the martyrs.
