Mangalore: The Karnataka Rajya Aksharadasaho Naukarara Sangha an association of mid-day meal workers affiliated to CITU urged to extend the basic facilities, for which they staged a protest in front of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat office on Thursday December 5.
During the protest, the CITU district president Balakrishna Shetty said, “After protesting on several occasions the government implemented the Aksharadasoha scheme, but it did not provide any basic facilities for the mid-day meal workers. Moreover these workers are employed at a very low salary and there is no security plans initiated for them.”
“The Aksharadasoha workers have staged indefinite stir in Bangalore and the district workers in city, stage protest in their support”, he confirmed.
The protesters also demanded the government to increase the salary to Rs 10,000 for the workers and stop the plan to privatize the scheme. The government which has handed over the Aksharadasoha program to ISCKON has unemployed 40,000 workers.
CITU district vice president Rohini B Shetty, secretary Vasanth Achary, Aksharadasoha workers as association leader Padma Shetty, Radha Moodbidri, Bhavya Gurpura and others were present.
