Bantwal :Thieves who broke into the house of a beedi industrialist at Panemangalore on October 9, Wednesday night have decamped with cash and valuables worth several lakhs of rupees.
The theft occurred in the house of PS Abdul Razak at Nehru Nagar near Panemangalore Toll Gate. The thieves who broke open the latch of the back door to enter, stole a cash of Rs 19.5 lakhs and gold jewels weighing 15 sovereigns after breaking upon the almirah. The thieves had later fled in a Pulsar bike parked in front of the house.
As the theft took place when the occupants were inside the house, there is a strong suspicion that they had sprayed some intoxicant before committing burglary.
The house owner Abdul Razak runs the PS Brand Beedi industry and had brought a cash of Rs 19 lakh home to distribute the wages of the beedi workers and his staff. The house was recently purchased by Razak from a mutton stall owner of Panemangalore.
Incidentally the theft took place even as there were several houses in the vicinity. The house owner has announced a cash reward of Rs one lakh to any one passing any information regarding the thieves.
Puttur DySP Mendonca, Circle Inspector Rajashekhar Mistri, Inspector Basheer Ahmed and other police personnel visited the spot. Even finger print experts and a dog squad has been rushed to the spot.
Bantwal town police have registered a case.
