Mangalore : Parameshwar Naik, State Minister for Labour has informed that a campaign to register the names of construction workers would be launched in the district in order to ensure maximum registration of workers.
Addressing press persons in Mangalore on October 24, Thursday, the Minister said the campaign would be launched with the help of elected representatives. He at the same time admitted that there had been not much of a co-operation from the workers as well as employers to this enrolment drive.
He said enrollment of construction workers would entitle them to various benefits and also added that so a compensation of Rs 79.90 lakhs has been distributed among 2203 workers in various cases.
He also spoke about the government’s plans to construct residential schools for children of construction workers in five cities and added residential quarters would also be constructed in 11 cities.
Deputy Commissioner N Prakash was also present.
