Ullal: Tension and commotion prevailed in Naringana, Bola areas when the residents resorted to staging a protest against the possible extension of quarrying sites, which would swallow an important road that provides connectivity to as many as 60 houses, school, college, temple, Church and Hindu crematorium.
Ignoring the scorching heat, the residents sat on the middle of the said road and registered their opposition to the move.
The protesters said that quarrying has been going on unabated in Bola Padau in Naringana Gram Panchayat limits, but yet, neither the GP nor the elected representatives have initiated action against the same.
The locals said that on the pretext of developing the crematorium, the quarry owner has gobbled some extent of the crematorium and now he is eyeing to take away the road.
The protesters say that the approach road to the crematorium is so narrow that recently, when grieving relatives were carrying a dead body to the crematorium, couple of people slipped on the narrow road and fell into a ditch along with the dead body.
Naringana GP President Ismail Meenankodi said that the move of the quarry owner to encroach the connecting road has been thwarted by the GP.
Further, the owner of the quarry has been directed not to cut off the road connecting Bola.
“The owner has agreed to the same. However, at many places, the Mines and Geology Department has given permission for quarrying without seeking NOC from the GP, which is making way for confusions” said Meenankodi.
