Mangalore: After a reporter was threatened by the state cabinet minister Abhaychandra Jain, the BJP has come out in support of the the reporter and sought the minister’s resignation.


The former deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa on Friday May 2, addressing a press meet insisted that Jain must immediately resign for allegedly threatening a reporter of a Kannada daily. Abhaychandra Jain has behaved irresponsibly and must give-up his post at once and apologize to the press.
Eshwarappa also asserted that India is a democratic country and we believe in freedom of speech and freedom of press, Abhaychandra Jain’s behavior is in complete disregard to these tenets of indian democracy, he said
Eshwarappa also added that BJP has no intention of politicizing the issue, rather every individual must take up this fight, he urged.
The BJP has planned to hold a meeting headed by the state unit president Prahlad Joshi on May 7, to deicide the further course of action.
Former minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, Nagaraj Shetty, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, district president Pratap Simha Nayak and others were present during the press meet.
